Chief Peter Barclay 1938-2023

Peter Charles Barclay of Towie Barclay and of that Ilk was born in Rome, Italy on 26 February 1938, where his father, Lieutenant-Colonel Walter Patrick Barclay of the Black Watch was Assistant Military Attaché. Educated at Eton College, Peter Barclay completed his National service with the Black Watch, serving in Germany and Scotland. In 1967, he succeeded his second cousin, Theodore Bruce de Tollie Barclay, as Chief of the name Barclay. Peter was a Life Member of the National Trust of Scotland and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Carpenters, London, where he resided. |
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Chief Peter, the Barclay of Towie Barclay and of that Ilk. He died peacefully at home on 2nd November 2023. He was the much-loved twin brother of Penny and uncle to Annabelle and Jeremy.
